Isis
The Philae temple complex is an island-based temple complex in the reservoir of the Aswan Low Dam, downstream of the Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser, Egypt.
Built to honour the goddess Isis, this was the last temple built in the classical Egyptian style. Construction began around 690 BC, and it was one of the last outposts where the goddess was worshipped.
These ancient temples have a long and fascinating history and are one of the most intriguing and unforgettable attractions in Egypt.
It is believed that Abu Simbel was not the name given to the temples when they were built, but rather the name of a young boy who had originally guided the Swiss scholar Burckhardt to the site. Historians do not know what the ancient Egyptians would have called the complex as this information has been lost in time.
King Ramses II built the Small Temple at Abu Simbel as a monument to his beautiful and much loved queen Nefertari. It is located just north of the main temple and it is smaller in size. This was only the second time in history that an ancient Egyptian temple was built in honor of a queen (the first was when Akhenaten) dedicated a temple to his great royal wife, Nefertiti.
The temple at Kom Ombo is about 30 miles (48 km) north of Aswan and was built during the Graeco-Roman period (332 BC AD 395). There was an earlier structure from the 18th dynasty but little remains.
The temple is unique because it is in fact a double temple, dedicated to Sobek the crocodile god, and Horus the falcon-headed god.
The layout combines two temples in one with each side having its own gateways and chapels.
Sobek is associated with the wicked god Seth, the enemy of Horus. In the Horus myth the allies of Seth made their escape by changing themselves into crocodiles.
El Kab is the present name of the ancient site of Nekheb, one of the oldest settlements of Upper Egypt.
The goddess Nekhbet was represented by a white vulture.
These birds of prey, whose habitat is restricted to the desert, were easily differentiated from the eagle by the white underside of their wings. Nekhbet is equated to the white crown of Upper Egypt. We visit a small but powerful Hathor temple in the desert.
The temple that dominates this complex, the structure that commands the attention of those who visit, is the Temple of Hathor.
The Hathor Temple has stone reliefs that depict Harsomtus, in the form of a snake, emerging from a lotus flower. Harsomtus, also known as Horus, is depicted as a one of the ancient gods, a "primeval creator"
The features in the complex include:
Hathor temple (the main temple)
Temple of the birth of IsisS
acred Lake
Cult temple dedicated to Amun, Mut and Khonsu. The largest religious building ever constructed. The temple of Karnak was known as Ipet-isu—or “most select of places”—by the ancient Egyptians.
It is a city of temples built over 2,000 years and dedicated to the Theban triad of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. This derelict place is still capable of overshadowing many wonders of the modern world and in its day must have been awe-inspiring.
The statues are a depiction of the goddess Sekhmet showing her lioness features from head to toe. The statues feature the fierce eye of the sun god Re and its jaw structure the goddess is known for.
The goddess has violent characteristics that can cause destruction and illness. Sekhmet's name means "who is powerful". The follower must please the Sekhmet goddess by praying and giving offerings to her Sekhmet statue.
If done correctly the Sekhmet would bring peace and help when sick or at war.
From ancient times to present day, pyramids have been used to amplify and transform energies. Considered one of the strongest talismans on Earth, pyramids existed in numerous ancient cultures. They served as symbols of spiritual power, eternal life and cosmic energy.
In 1978, Japanese researchers conducted several studies with the aim of proving that the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids by the primitive method of construction- they failed miserably.
Today we marvel at these incredible works of art. Pondering... were they built by aliens?
Join us and you can decide when we have our private Pyramid Access!
Recent discoveries by Boston University geologist Robert Schoch of ancient water damage to the Sphinx have thrown the scientific world into tizzy, for they suggest that Egypt's legendary monument might be thousands of years older than previously believed.
Was there an ancient civilization destroyed by some great catastrophe whose survivors built the Sphinx some 10,500 years before Christ?
